The Chief of Police, appointed by the City Manager, is charged with overseeing the day-today operations of the Department’s $60 million annual operating budget and approximately 400 Sworn and Civilian Personnel. Candidates are expected to have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from

an accredited college or university, and five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in police service equivalent to the level of Lieutenant or above. A Master’s degree, experience in a diverse community, and successful completion of the FBI National Academy, P.O.S.T.

Command College and/or an equivalent management leadership program are desirable.

Position: Assistant Chief of Police

Agency: Edwardsville Police Department

Salary: Up to $70,000

Deadline: 09/24/10

The City of Edwardsville, KS is accepting applications from qualified persons for the position

of Assistant Chief of Police. The primary function of the Assistant Chief is to perform

leadership and administrative duties in direct assistance to the Police Chief, functioning as

second-in-command, and assisting in the supervision and direction of all City police

functions. This position requires experience, education, and training in modern law

enforcement with an ability to provide active leadership for the department and support for

the Chief of Police. Duties include, but are not limited to, planning, organizing and directing

specific department functions, supervising detectives and shift supervisors, inspecting the

work of others, reviewing reports and investigations, managing internal affairs

investigations, researching, drafting and implementing policy and procedures, supervising

code enforcement and animal control functions, overseeing fleet management and

department inventory, and performing other duties as assigned. Located south of the Kansas Speedway and I-70 and West of I-435 in the Kansas City metropolitan area, the City of Edwardsville is positioned for fast growth from numerous proposed development projects. The department has an authorized strength of 16 sworn personnel and two civilian positions.

TYPE Full Time

SALARY The City provides a generous benefits package that includes a very

competitive salary up to $70,000, dependent upon qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field and a minimum of four (4) years of proven management and command-level responsibility. Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, certification from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Masters degree and completion of advance police management and leadership training such as the FBI National Academy is preferred
